Who doesn’t appreciate the beauty and hope that Spring brings to all of us?
Spring is Here!
Who doesn’t appreciate the beauty and hope that Spring brings to all of us?

I happen to live near one of the most quaint towns in Kansas City along the Missouri River. When I was growing up I’d go visit my Grandparents in St. Louis. They happened to live near the Mississippi River and so more than once they would take me to the park that existed along the river in St. Louis. Never did I dream that years later when I was an adult, I would be living near a river. This park and river that I live near, and love in Kansas City, are one of many things that remind me of my Grandparents.
Even though this place in KC is one of the most popular places to photograph, I had never done it. Finally, my wish came true! I can’t decide which is my favorite….
I finally made the trip to Loss Bluffs. I wasn’t disappointed!
The grass is always greener on the other side, but I sure appreciate my backyard!
Occasionally I will take my camera outside to my own backyard to photograph something simply because I enjoy photographing. Even though I think I’ve seen every inch and every angle of the yard, I’ll still take a picture anyway. Sometimes the results are just, “ho hum,” while other times it’s a “Wow!”
I get to live in the midwest where all four seasons are experienced fully. Each season offers unique gifts to enjoy, but my all time favorite is probably Fall. Not only are the temperatures perfect, usually with low humidity, but the abundance of colors prevails in every direction, whether living in the city or out in the country. My only complaint about Fall is that it doesn’t last long enough!
Judging from the number of times I travelled to Lake Michigan and looking at the countless number of photos I took, it would be easy to see how much I love this particular Lake! From the first time my eyes were pleasured with its beauty, I was hooked. The massive size of it, along with its sea green hue and foamy white waves dashing against its shore, continually mesmerizes me every time I visit this Great Lake.
Have you ever seen Lake Michigan? Have you ever even gotten close to it? Even though there is a lot that I haven’t seen, Lake Michigan is the prettiest lake I’ve ever laid eyes on! Why? For me it’s because of its size and its incredible greenish color. I’ve always loved the ocean. Because of its size, Lake Michigan looks like an ocean…..with a beautiful green tint. If you enjoy being near the water, you’ve got to see it! I made two separate trips to this oasis. So, these photos are from my May 31 trip and my June 14 trip. Enjoy!
One afternoon I happened to look out my bedroom window and saw my son and his son in the canoe. Not only did it strike me as an opportunity to photograph a memory for both of them, the scene through my window was touching.
Just a play on words. These Senior moments that I captured are a set of twins who just graduated from high school and they wanted their Senior photos to express who they were. These two have been close ever since they entered the world, hardly separated for anything or by anyone. Their love for one another is displayed in some of their photos.
This was a wonderful place to photograph because of the combination of photogenic elements: Evening sky, water for reflections, perfect lights, and beautiful architecture! I was truly inspired and excited for this challenge.
After photographing at my favorite park, uploading the photographs, and doing some editing, I realized that one of the photographs reminded me of a car advertisement.
One of my favorite objects in nature to photograph are flowers. I appreciate all types and colors, but my very favorite is probably the red rose. It’s probably my favorite because it usually stands for love AND red is my favorite color! These particular roses were a Valentine’s gift from my boyfriend.
One of our local universities celebrates various occasions by displaying colorful lights on its main building. This particular color scheme was in honor of the Kansas City Chiefs football team going to the Super Bowl. It was unique and needed to be photographed!
As you can see, I had to end the year with more Christmas photos. (Did I mention earlier how much I love Christmas time?) Make sure when you photograph your Christmas tree with its twinkling lights, you keep the flash OFF. It’s tempting to use flash since the room with the Christmas tree might be dimly lit, but if you use the flash you will over power those little lights on your tree.
Night photography is fun to do, but using a tripod is necessary for the longer exposures that it takes to capture the evening lights. Photographing the reflections is also a must if you’re near a body of water…..even if it’s just a pond. You will need to experiment around to see how long the shutter should stay open to capture the beauty of the lights. It might take just 15 seconds or maybe 30 seconds depending on how dark it is outside. Needless to say, there are other factors to consider when photographing night scenes.
